Project Overview

The Cervical Cancer: Prevention Through Screening at PHCs project aims to address the rising concerns about cervical cancer in rural areas by promoting awareness, early detection, and timely treatment. This project focuses on empowering healthcare providers, particularly at Primary Health Centers (PHCs), to conduct Visual Inspection with Acetic Acid (VIA) screenings. It also emphasizes community engagement to ensure widespread awareness and participation.

Project Objectives

  • Raise Awareness: Educating rural communities, especially women, about cervical cancer, its prevention, and the importance of regular screenings.
  • Train Healthcare Workers: Providing specialized training to Medical Officers, Nursing officers, ANMs, and CHOs on VIA screening techniques for early detection.
  • Enhance Access to Screening: Organizing regular cervical cancer screening camps in rural PHCs to ensure access to life-saving services.
  • Mobilize Communities: Engaging local health workers and community members, such as ASHAs, to spread awareness and increase participation in screening programs.

Key Initiatives

  • Training Healthcare Providers: Offering technical training to healthcare staff to ensure accurate screening and identification of cervical cancer in its early stages.
  • Community Awareness Campaigns: Conducting awareness sessions and educational programs to empower women with knowledge about cervical cancer prevention and the importance of early screening.
  • Screening Camps: Organizing free cervical cancer screening camps at PHCs and CHCs, ensuring accessibility for rural women.
  • Community Mobilization: Working with ASHAs and other local health workers to spread awareness and encourage participation in screening camps.
  • Monitoring and Reporting: Regular tracking and documentation of screening results, awareness campaigns, and follow-up care to ensure the project's impact and effectiveness.

Through this initiative, SPSS Foundation, in collaboration with CAPED India Trust, American Cancer Society and the District Health Department, strives to reduce the incidence of cervical cancer in Rajsamand, promoting a healthier future for women in the region.
